Terrorists disguise as labourers to attack Madagali, Maiduguri –DHQ

The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, has said members of the communities in the North-East region must be alert to a new ploy being employed by the Boko Haram sect, which is to disguise as menial workers and attack their victims.

The DHQ, in a statement signed by the acting Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, said the same ploy was employed in the recent attacks on a market in Madagali, Adamawa State, and the Monday Market, Maiduguri, Borno State.

Fifty-nine persons died in the attacks on both markets.

Abubakar said, “The DHQ wishes to alert the members of the public to another ploy being employed by the escaping Boko Haram terrorists that were smoked out of the Sambisa Forest by the combined efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“Available information indicates that some fleeing Boko Haram terrorists are now disguising as menial workers to melt into communities and towns with a view to organising terrorists attack against our citizens. The unfortunate recent incidents in Madagali and Maiduguri are instructive. The DHQ advises citizens to be on the alert and be wary of these tricks of the terrorists who are hell-bent on remaining relevant.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has vowed to prosecute Boko Haram terrorists and anybody suspected to be engaged in acts of terrorism.

The National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.), said this on Tuesday in Abuja at a deliberation on developing a comprehensive approach to prosecuting and rehabilitating former members of the Boko Haram.

Monguno said Nigeria was determined to win the fight against terrorism through its national values, which include respect for human rights as guaranteed by Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution and relevant international human rights conventions.

“Whereas violence does not respect human rights, and we share no such values, we are committed to ensuring that every suspect charged with terrorism has a day in court,” the NSA added.
