TOPIC: AS HE THAT SERVETH
Bible Text: Titus1:1-9
Key Verse: “Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:1,2).
Words are direct reflection of thoughts. They are the overflow of issues processed in the heart. There is no spontaneous in-road to destiny. The journey to destiny starts from the heart. Speech, conduct or behaviour is an expression of one’s internal dynamics. Except the heart is carefully structured under God’s guidance to shapen pertinent words and reaction, an otherwise glorious destiny might be subverted.
Paul the apostle had a fixed purpose in life. His thoughts were in tandem with his pursuit in life and what he said reflected his target. In our text today, he carefully chose his words. He began by saying that he was a servant of God, personally commissioned by Jesus. He talked about the blessed hope of Christians to live beyond the termination of this present sinful world. He also pointed out that the basis of the existence of the world is to prepare ourselves for eternal dwelling. Since the entire life of Christians was planned before the world’s creation, we can correctly assume that it was never in God’s plan for this world to be eternal. In His eternal existence, the creation of the world was not meant to be the ideal resting place for those who, through faith, would transit into eternal dwelling with Him.
Paul emphasised that God “cannot lie”. Since He is the Omniscient being who originated all things, He has no reason to lie. It is thus impossible to lie to Himself. Real believers in Christ are slaves to God’s will. This is opposed to slavery to sin. All Christians should give themselves as slaves for God’s work in this world. When one becomes a Christian, he begins to work the will of the One who sent him forth into the world. Our faith moves us to respond to the truth of the gospel and brings our lives into agreement with the will of God.
Thought for the day: Our mental inclination is the navigator of our life’s destination.
