A female teacher could face a 20-year jail sentence after she was arrested for allegedly having sex with a student.
It’s claimed Samantha Woolverton, of Palestine, Texas regularly picked up the pupil for romps in her car.
Local news station KLTV reports a warrant released by the Palestine Police Department reveals fresh details of the case.
It claims there was an “illicit relationship” between a high school teacher and her student, whose age and sex have not been revealed.
The warrant also says the 32-year-old, a teacher at Palestine High School, was arrested at her home on February 6.
She was later charged with the second-degree felony of “improper relationship between educator and student”, it’s alleged.
The Palestine Herald-Press reports the warrant claims Woolverton had been having sex with a student since 2016.
It claims:“Through investigation and speaking with several students and faculty members, it can reasonably be believed that a relationship of a sexual nature has taken place between the defendant and a student enrolled at Palestine High School.”
Police say information gleaned from interviews with students and faculty members indicate.
Woolverton had sex in her car with the pupil “several times”, the paper reports.
Larissa Loveless, Palestine Independent school District director of public relations, confirmed to KLTV that the allegations were brought to the administration’s attention in early February.
She added that the teacher is currently on administrative leave which will continue until the conclusion of legal matters.
