OFFA ROBBERY

OFFA ROBBERY – The police have revealed the identities of 12 suspects who were arrested for alleged connection to the last Thursday’s robbery in Offa, Kwara State.

Armed robbers stormed the community the afternoon of April 5, killing 17 people and raiding five banks. Eight police officers at Owode Division, Offa, were also killed in the attack, and the robbers made away with police arms and ammunition.

The police arrested seven suspects within the first two days of the attack, and made more arrests on later dates.

The police had earlier withheld the names of the first batch of suspects, saying doing so could jeopardise efforts to arrest the remaining members of the gang or/and threaten the entire investigation into the deadly robbery that had gripped the nation for the past one week.

President Muhammadu Buhari and other Nigerian leaders have condemned the attack and called on the police to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Jimoh Moshood, the police spokesperson at Force Headquarters, released details of the arrests, including recovered exhibits, in a statement to Premium Times around 6:00 p.m. Friday.

Two policemen land in hospital after arresting elderly priest for groping women on a train

Two policemen ended up in the hospital after a priest attacked them while resisting arrest for groping women on a train.

Father Peter Slocombe, 72, punched and kicked the officers in the face as he protested his innocence, yelling: “I’m a man of the cloth.”

The attack left one of the policemen with a broken nose and both had cuts and bruises. They were eventually able to arrest the British priest, who was not wearing his Catholic habit, after calling for back-up. He was bundled into a squad car at Rome’s main station.

The priest’s arrest came after two women in their 40s alerted police that he had touched them on the bottom and chest. When police arrived and the women pointed at the priest, he ran off and that led to a chase which resulted in a struggle when he was caught.

Father Slocombe, who was on holiday at the time of the incident, is parish priest at St Joseph Church in Tewkesbury, Gloucs, and Catholic chaplain at the University of Gloucester. Parishioners had planned a party for him next month to celebrate his 50 years as a clergyman.

A police spokesman said:

This guy was crazy. He was punching and kicking out at the officers. He kept saying he was man of the cloth and was innocent but we have witnesses who say he was touching two women on the train and the victims identified him.

He got sentenced to house arrest for two years and eight months at a Rome court for sexual assault and resisting arrest.

Three killed, beheaded in fresh cult violence in Rivers

At least, three people have been reported killed and beheaded in fresh cult violence at Ubimini community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Sources close to Ubimini gave the names of the victims as Eddy Dogwo, also known as Bakasi; one Odugbo Didia and a third victim whose nickname was given as Things Change.

Sources gathered that the young men were killed by members of a rival cult gang that invaded the community in the early hours of yesterday.

Our source disclosed that the attack might be a reprisal for the killing of an Ubimini cult leader at Egbeda community, which he said had caused fear and tension in the area ever since.

Elsewhere, around Ogoni axis of Rivers State; there have also been reports of violence at Bomu and Lewe communities in Gokana Local Government Area, with at least one person feared dead and several others injured.

It was gathered that buildings were also destroyed at Lewe community, including the structure housing the Universal Basic Education School.

The violence appears to be an offshoot of boundary dispute between the communities, and for which the Rivers State Boundary Adjustment Committee has been trying to resolve.

Last month, a similar violent attack at Bomu claimed the life of at least three people, with some valuables destroyed and the symbol of traditional authority of the community stolen.

A member of the Council of Chiefs and Elders of Lewe Community, Chief Monday Meedom, confirmed the latest attack in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.

Chief Meedom said unknown gunmen invaded the community in the early hours of yesterday, shooting indiscriminately, which forced inhabitants to scamper for safety.

When contacted, spokesman of the Rivers state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incidents.

Omoni however said personnel have been deployed to Ubimini and Lewe communities.

Man arrested for turning his teenage daughter into his sex slave for 2 years
  • Man arrested for turning his teenage daughter into his sex slave for 2 years

A father has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for consistently having sex with his teenage daughter’s for 2 years.

The man deflowered his daughter in 2016 when she was 14 and continued having sex with her till 2018 when the victim exposed him. It was gathered that the victim bore the trauma and found it difficult to expose her father because of the ‘shame’ it will bring to the family.

However, when she could not bear it any longer she exposed him. He was then arrested and detained at the Gender Section of the State Police Command, Lagos.

During interrogation, he was said to have initially denied until the victim was brought before him and he reportedly confessed. He then pleaded for forgiveness claiming that he was tempted by the devil to do so.

The police found his action culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates court for defilement and incest.

The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, informed the court that the defendant was the father of the victim and requested that the file be sent to DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, did not take his plea and bail because of the seriousness of the offence.

The court ordered him to be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to DPP for advice.

Meanwhile, the victim was said to have been taken to the rehabilitation centre for treatment.
