TOPIC: GOD’S WORD FORTIFIES YOUR FAITH
Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Psalm 119:73-96
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 5th November 2020
The psalmist is praying about a host of things in his life. Find out two of the things in vv.76–78. He prays that God’s steadfast love becomes his comfort and wishes that he may not be found wanting in his knowledge of the word of God (v.80).
Notice what he is complaining about in vv.82, 84, 85. God knows what we feel in our hearts and what we want before we even say it (Psalm 139:4), so it is fine with him. Nothing is taboo to him. He just wants to help us.
What characteristic of our God do you get in vv.89 and 90? From what the psalmist says in v.92, what saves him from perishing and strengthens him against his enemies (v.95)? It is important that we know and understand the word of God. When we do, we are able to handle temptations in an informed way. Our faith is fortified by God’s word.
⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
• Meditation: We forfeit the blessings of God if we do not live in obedience to his Word.
Hymn: He Leadeth Me
1. He leadeth me, O bless?d thought!
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.
2. Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since ’tis my God that leadeth me.
