52-year-old man defiles teenage girl after luring her with biscuit
CRIME – A 52-year-old man, Gabriel Olaniyan, has been accused of defiling a nine-year-old girl after seducing her with N10 biscuits on her way home from an Arabic school.
Olaniyan, who was arraigned before an Ibadan Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku on Monday, said the act was a mistake on his part.
In a charge, number mi/37c/2018, the accused was arraigned on one count of having carnal knowledge of a minor.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Folake Ewe, told the court that Olaniyan, who was jobless, committed the crime on March 1, 2018 around 5pm at the Alapafon area of Ibadan.
According to Ewe, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. N. J. Ogunbona, asked the accused if he committed the crime for ritual purposes before ordering him to be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. She adjourned the case till April 5, 2018.
The victim’s father, Adeleke, said he had separated from her mother and that his new wife had been taking care of the minor.
