Mike Igini, Akwa Ibom REC, says nothing can influence the choice of the people. “The votes are determined by the people in polling units. It is the will of the people that must govern and that must be ensured,” he says.

  • POLICE, SOLDIERS CLASH IN RIVERS

Policemen and soldiers have clashed over who takes command of the gate of the state’s collation centre. The army had ordered some policemen to leave the premises, and after a while the policemen reinforced, forcing their way in.

  • In Plateau: Hussein Halilu Pai, state REC, has handed over the election materials to Richard Kimbir, state returning officer. The materials will be used to declare the final result of the governorship poll.

  • In Akwa Ibom: Mike Igini, Akwa Ibom REC, just arrived at the state collation centre. Collation is about to start.

 

ARMY IN CHARGE!

In Rivers: The major roads leading to the the INEC collation centre has been barricaded by companies of soldiers.

And at the gate of the centre, the army is in charge, manning the gate while most police officers appear less busy.

In Akwa Ibom: All is set at the Akwa Ibom collation centre where the result of the governorship election will be announced. The collation officer and other senior INEC officials are yet to arrive although the process was scheduled to start at 10am.

DAPO ABIODUN’S JOY IS LIMITLESS

As results of Ogun state’s governorship election are trickling in, Dapo Abiodun, APM candidate, is already in full celebration mode.

In Plateau: INEC officials are getting set for collation of the state’s results. Plateau has 17 local government areas.

Hours after millions of Nigerians voted across the country, the results are now being collated in the wards and local government collation centres.

Millions of Nigerians on Saturday trooped out to elect their state governors and state legislators who would lead them for the next four years.

Elections were also held for chairpersons and councillorship seats in the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The positions contested include governors in 29 states, 991 state assembly seats and the six chairmen and 62 councillors for the councils in the FCT.
