Catholic Mass Daily Readings 6th February 2023

Reading 1
Gn 1:1-19
In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss,
while a mighty wind swept over the waters.

Then God said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw how good the light was.
God then separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”
Thus evening came, and morning followed–the first day.

Then God said,
“Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters,
to separate one body of water from the other.”
And so it happened:
God made the dome,
and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it.
God called the dome “the sky.”
Evening came, and morning followed–the second day.

Then God said,
“Let the water under the sky be gathered into a single basin,
so that the dry land may appear.”
And so it happened:
the water under the sky was gathered into its basin,
and the dry land appeared.
God called the dry land “the earth,”
and the basin of the water he called “the sea.”
God saw how good it was.
Then God said,
“Let the earth bring forth vegetation:
every kind of plant that bears seed
and every kind of fruit tree on earth
that bears fruit with its seed in it.”
And so it happened:
the earth brought forth every kind of plant that bears seed
and every kind of fruit tree on earth that
bears fruit with its seed in it.
God saw how good it was.
Evening came, and morning followed–the third day.

Then God said:
“Let there be lights in the dome of the sky,
to separate day from night.
Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years,
and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky,
to shed light upon the earth.”
And so it happened:
God made the two great lights,
the greater one to govern the day,
and the lesser one to govern the night;
and he made the stars.
God set them in the dome of the sky,
to shed light upon the earth,
to govern the day and the night,
and to separate the light from the darkness.
God saw how good it was.
Evening came, and morning followed–the fourth day.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 104:1-2a, 5-6, 10 and 12, 24 and 35c
R. (31b) May the Lord be glad in his works.
Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD, my God, you are great indeed!
You are clothed with majesty and glory,
robed in light as with a cloak.
R. May the Lord be glad in his works.
You fixed the earth upon its foundation,
not to be moved forever;
With the ocean, as with a garment, you covered it;
above the mountains the waters stood.
R. May the Lord be glad in his works.
You send forth springs into the watercourses
that wind among the mountains.
Beside them the birds of heaven dwell;
from among the branches they send forth their song.
R. May the Lord be glad in his works.
How manifold are your works, O LORD!
In wisdom you have wrought them all—
the earth is full of your creatures;
Bless the LORD, O my soul! Alleluia.
R. May the Lord be glad in his works.

Alleluia
Mt 4:23
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom
and cured every disease among the people.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel
Mk 6:53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

TOPIC: Seeking Healing

Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed. Mark 6:56

Daily Gospel Reflections 6th February 2023 MESSAGE

It would have been truly awe-inspiring to witness Jesus healing the sick. The people who witnessed this clearly had never seen anything like it before. For those who were sick, or whose loved ones were sick, each healing would have had a powerful effect upon them and upon their whole family.

Today, modern medicine, with its ability to treat so many illnesses, has lessened the fear and anxiety over getting sick. But in Jesus’ time, serious illness was of far greater concern. For that reason, the desire of so many people to bring their sick to Jesus so that they could be healed was very strong. This desire drove them to Jesus so that “they might touch only the tassel on his cloak” and be healed. And Jesus didn’t disappoint.

Though Jesus’ physical healings were unquestionably an act of charity given to those who were sick and to their families, they obviously weren’t the most important thing Jesus did. And it’s important for us to remind ourselves of that fact. Jesus’ healings were primarily for the purpose of preparing the people to listen to His Word and to ultimately receive the spiritual healing of the forgiveness of their sins.

In your own life, if you were seriously ill and were given the option to receive either a physical healing or to receive the spiritual healing of the forgiveness of your sins, which would you choose? Clearly, the spiritual healing of the forgiveness of your sins is of infinitely greater value. It will affect your soul for all eternity. The truth is that this far greater healing is available to us all, especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In that Sacrament, we are invited to “touch the tassel on his cloak,” so to speak, and be spiritually healed. For that reason, we should have a much deeper desire to seek out Jesus in the confessional than the people of Jesus’ day had for physical healing. And yet, too often we ignore the priceless gift of God’s mercy and healing offered so freely to us.

Reflect, today, upon the desire in the hearts of the people in this Gospel story. Think, especially, about those who were seriously ill and about their burning desire to come to Jesus for healing. Compare that desire in their hearts to the desire, or lack of desire, in your heart to run to our Lord for the spiritual healings your soul so desperately needs. Seek to foster a greater desire for this healing, especially as it comes to you through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: My healing Lord, I thank You for the spiritual healing You continually offer me, especially through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins on account of You suffering on the Cross. Fill my heart with a greater desire to come to You so as to receive the greatest gift I could ever receive: the forgiveness of my sins. Jesus, I trust in You.

Rick Warren Daily Hope Devotional 5th February 2023RICK WARREN DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Rick Warren Daily Hope Devotional 5th February 2023 Message. As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)

TOPIC: From Overwhelmed to Overflowing

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (NIV)

The moment you start doubting the goodness of God and deciding for yourself what will make you happy, all kinds of problems begin in your life. You wind up overworked, overanxious, and overloaded—and just generally overwhelmed!

But God promises you an overflowing life, not an overwhelmed life.

Jesus said, “I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness” (John 10:10 GNT).

How do you experience an abundant, overflowing life? There is one habit that, if you do it every day, will fill you with an endless supply of God’s goodness: Stay connected to Jesus.

In John 15:5, Jesus compared staying connected to him with a grapevine: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NIV).

What happens when a cluster of grapes is cut off from the vine? It dies. The same is true with you.

God is your true source of energy and power. If you try to go through life on your own power, you’re going to be overwhelmed. But if you’re connected to him, you’ll have all the power you need. Or, as the Bible says, “Your joy will overflow!” (John 15:11 NLT)

One way to stay connected to Jesus is through a daily quiet time. In a quiet time, you set aside time to be alone with God and get to know him through reading his Word and talking to him in prayer.

Mark 1:35 says, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (NIV).

Even Jesus knew his personal need for connection with God—and he was the Son of God! How much more do you need the strength that comes from daily time with the Lord?

Some days you may not feel like having a quiet time—but do it anyway. If you wait to have a quiet time until you feel like it, Satan will make sure you never feel like it.

Do you find yourself needing more time, energy, knowledge, or opportunity? I want to challenge you to develop the habit of spending daily time with Jesus. When you stay connected to him, you’ll find your life overflowing with God’s goodness and power—and you’ll realize that’s all you really need.

John Hagee Daily Devotional 5th February 2023, Sunday Devotional Message. As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)

SCRIPTURE: Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams! – Genesis 37:19–20

John Hagee Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 MESSAGE

Joseph was rejected by his brothers because their father favored him, and there will be people in your life that will not be able to accept God’s favor upon you. There may be a season when they’re willing to walk with you. But when God begins to promote you because you trust Him, they’ll try to pull you down because God is taking you places, as He did Joseph, and they can’t stand it. If you’re wearing a burden of rejection that’s been placed upon you by those who should have accepted you but didn’t, whom you reached out to and have been shunned, whom you attempted to embrace and were denied, Joseph has a message for you.

It’s in those moments of rejection that you, like Joseph, have to stand firm in the faith that you are blessed and highly favored. Never hang your head because God is blessing you. Square your shoulders and declare, “God’s promise is my portion. His goodness and mercy follow me. He will never leave me nor forsake me. The world may not like it, but the world didn’t give it, and the world can’t take it away. God has been faithful, good, loving and kind. If that bothers someone, they can take it up with Him!”

Today’s Blessing:

Heavenly Father, according to Your Word, I pray that You would bless them and keep them. Make Your face shine upon them and be gracious unto them. Let Your Word become so alive in their lives that it would be like fire shut up in their bones. Let it become the light that guides their lives through this dark world. Let them be the light of the world that shines Your love to others. And let us, Heavenly Father, reach this generation that they would know that God is alive, He is risen, and He is seated at the right hand of the Father where He rules and reigns in truth. Heavenly Father, I thank You that every burden has been lifted, every yoke has been destroyed, and every shackle has been broken because You are almighty and Your Word endures forever. This, we receive in faith and thank You for it in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Joel Osteen Daily Devotional 5th February 2023JOEL OSTEEN DAILY DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE – TODAY’S WORD

Joel Osteen Daily Devotional 5th February 2023, Sunday Today’s Word with Joel & Victoria Osteen. Read Daily Devotional Message by Joel Osteen

TOPIC: Let Down Your Net

Today’s Scripture
Luke 5:6, VOICE
Simon then gets his fellow fishermen to help him let down their nets, and to their surprise, the water is bubbling with thrashing fish – a huge school. The strands of their nets start snapping under the weight of the catch.

Joel Osteen Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 MESSAGE

The disciples were professional fishermen, but they had fished all night and caught nothing. When we’re not seeing things happen as we expect, it’s easy to feel frustrated and discouraged. But God still has all the fish that belong to you. You tried all night, so to speak. It’s been months, or even years, and you haven’t seen good breaks, promotion, things turning around. Don’t worry, because your fish are being stored up. Jesus told His disciples to let their nets into the deep one more time, which means the fish were that close. You don’t have to do something drastically different. God is going to bless you where you are. He’s going to cause the fish to find you – not a few fish, but a great haul of fish. You may be in a dry season; things are not changing. God sees your faithfulness.

He hasn’t forgotten about you. He’s going to make up for what hasn’t happened. As with those disciples, boatloads of prepared blessings are coming your way. Just let down your net.

Prayer for Today
Father, thank You that You are the God who spoke worlds into existence, and You know how to bring net-breaking blessings to my net. Help me to start taking steps of faith that open the door to Your favor. I’m going to keep believing Your Word and letting down my net. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Upper Room Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 by Beverly Taylor (Arizona, USA) As you study today’s devotional, remember this; “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)

TOPIC: Carefully Shaped

TODAY’S READING
Jeremiah 18:1-10

I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. – Jeremiah 18:3-4 (NIV)

The Upper Room Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 MESSAGE

My neighbor has a beautiful tree, a spreading green canopy with a gentle shape. Its loveliness is no surprise because my neighbor is fully dedicated to caring for and shaping her tree. I have watched her gently clip any wayward tangled leaf or stem, choosing what cut will make the best shape. After a battering storm she vigorously prunes the broken or damaged branches. Watching this process for several years, I have realized it holds a significant spiritual lesson: God shapes our imperfect lives.

Just as my neighbor shapes her tree, God is molding me through everyday circumstances. God can use even shattering storms to do good work in me. I have experienced deep, devastating sorrow that ripped everything from me until all I could cling to was the simple belief that “Jesus loves me, this I know!” Through these crushing times I often wondered, How could all these difficult things possibly be working together for my good?

I am learning to trust that God is dedicated to forming me into a better version of myself. My neighbor’s tree is a beautiful reminder that God is carefully shaping me.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank you, Creator, for knowing just where we need your love to reshape our lives. Make us ready to do your work in the world. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God is reshaping my life day by day.

In Touch Daily Devotional 5th February 2023In Touch Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 By Dr. Charles Stanley, Sunday Reflection Message

Read In Touch Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 and be blessed.

Sunday Reflection: An Inheritance of Faith

To get the most out of this devotion, set aside time to read the scriptures referenced throughout.

Where does faith come from? For some people, trust in Jesus almost seems genetic—like red hair, a distaste for cilantro, or a quick wit. For others, following the Lord was an unexpected detour from family expectations or cultural traditions.

Salvation is solely the work of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, but for most Christians, being born again came about with the help of spiritual “midwives.” These are the Sunday school teachers, parents, evangelists, pastors, friends, and strangers who helped usher unbelievers from death to life.

Write down your spiritual family tree, listing the people who shaped your walk with God. In what ways does your faith look like theirs? What beliefs and behaviors did you inherit from them? Repeat this process, going back as many “generations” as you can, to sketch the fullest picture of your spiritual DNA.

Think about it

• In 2 Timothy 1:2-6, the apostle Paul is writing to a young pastor, but imagine him writing a similar letter to one of your descendants. How would he describe your faith?

Bible in One Year: Leviticus 21-23

Reflect: Have you thanked God for the people He sent into your life to share His love?

MFM’s leadership and its sub-ministry, Battle Cry Ministries, place emphasis on deliverance ministry and prayers against the works of demonic forces. It incorporates an African spiritual worldview (to an extent of being mildly syncretist with ministration of dealing with ancestral spirits) and the existence of hidden evil and spiritual forces against progress toward the fulfilment of one’s “destiny” as part of its theology.

MFM Ministries is a full gospel ministry devoted to the Revival of Apostolic Signs, Holy Ghost fireworks and the unlimited demonstration of the power of God to deliver to the uttermost.

Absolute holiness within and without as the greatest spiritual insecticide and a pre-requisite for Heaven is taught openly. MFM is a do-it-yourself Gospel ministry where your hands are trained to wage war and your fingers to do battle.

At MFM, aggressive prayer is considered as an aid to spiritual focus and a check against being overwhelmed by the flesh. At MFM Prayer City, prayer goes on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, non-stop.

TOPIC: Watched By The Word

FOCUS SCRIPTURE: “And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.” (Exodus 2: 4)

As Moses’ mother dropped him by the river bank, unsure of where the waters would carry him to or who would pick him up, his sister Miriam stood afar off to watch what would be done to him. Miriam was a prophetess. So, put differently, the prophetic unction was watching over Moses to see what would become of him. The prophetic is symbolic of what the Lord has said. So, what God has said watched over Moses as he sailed.

Friend, in 2023, the prophetic will watch over you. What the Lord has said concerning you will watch over you. What the Lord has said concerning your 2023 will watch over you. What the Lord has said concerning you in scriptures will watch over you every step of the way. What the Lord has said concerning your rising will watch over you. What the Lord has said concerning your health will watch over you. The word of the Lord will watch you.

The moment Moses’ mother placed him in the ark and released him into the sea, she left Miriam to watch over him. The moment the matter was no longer within her control, she let the prophetic take control of the situation. When it is no longer within your powers to change the situation, let the word of the Lord take control. Speak the word to control your situation. Speak the word to take charge of the future.

In 2023 and beyond, you may not always be there when your name is mentioned; you may not be there to know the conspiracies of men against you; you may not be there to know the policies waiting to take you down; you may not know the plans the enemy has rolled out for you; you may not know how the waters of life will rise and rock your boat; but I decree that the prophetic will watch over you. The word of the Lord will watch over you.

Today, I pray for you: let the prophetic watch over you in 2023. Let the word of the Lord keep watch over you till you rise to your high places.

Isaiah 55: 11 says: “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

DECLARATION The word of the Lord will watch over me in 2023, in Jesus’ name!

As you praise God Almighty today, He shall arise and turn your enemies against one another, in the Name of Jesus.

Psalm 108:1-4

A praise song of David.
108 God, I am ready, heart and soul,
to sing songs of praise.
Wake up, my soul!
2 Harps and lyres, wake up,
and let’s wake the dawn!
3 Lord, I will praise you before all people.
I will sing praises about you to every nation.
4 Your faithful love is higher
than the highest clouds in the sky!

MFM Daily Devotional 5th February 2023 MESSAGE

Yesterday, we saw what a harp connotes. We equally looked at how situations made the children of Israel and many believers in our days hang their harps. Today, we want to dwell further on the importance of engaging our harps.

In today’s memory verse, David said, “Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: myself will awake early.” Two things can be deduced from this statement: First, the harp of David had been sleeping all along and by extension his glory.

Second, it takes an early riser to successfully engage harps victoriously.
Here lies the question: Has your harp been sleeping or has it even gone into coma? It is time to awaken the giant in your harp for therein lies the secret of victory for each day.

Note that when some harps go to sleep, the glory of the harper might also follow suit. Some glories are fast asleep simply because their harps have been made to sleep. It is time to awaken your sleeping harps and glories.

You also need to awaken yourself early for it takes an earlier riser to engage a harp successfully. You need to set the tone for your day by rising early to give thanks to your Maker.

People that rise up each day complaining never cease to have reasons to complain throughout the day. Likewise, people that start the day by giving thanks never cease to give thanks throughout the day.

Beloved, if your harp is sleeping, it is time to rise early and awaken it. Give thanks to God early in the morning. There lies your strength to face an uncertain day.
Awake beloved; awake, sing and dance unto the Lord. The joy of the Lord is your strength!

TOPIC: Faithfulness (1)

SCRIPTURE: ‘Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?’
Proverbs 20:6 NIV

A new employee once asked a co-worker, ‘How long have you been working for the company?’ He replied, ‘Ever since the boss threatened to fire me!’ Seriously, employers scramble to find workers who are faithful and dependable. Citizens long for politicians who will faithfully carry out all of their campaign promises. In the marriage ceremony, newlyweds are asked to be faithful to the vows they make to each other. The truth is, without faithfulness, your influence will be restricted – or wiped out. Without faithfulness, the sum total of all your other wonderful talents is diluted. Faithfulness turns the mundane into the miraculous and transforms ordinary individuals into dependable achievers.

Wise King Solomon asked this soul-searching question: ‘Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?’ The world wants people who are faithful. There are more than 300 geysers in Yellowstone National Park (approximately half the known geysers in the world). But one stands above the others. It’s not the largest, and its waters don’t reach the greatest height, but it’s by far the most popular. And its popularity is due solely to one thing – its dependability. People stand in long lines under the hot sun to see it, because according to a precise schedule, it shoots a stream of boiling water more than 120 feet into the air. You can nearly set your watch by it. That’s why it’s called Old Faithful. People are attracted to our faithfulness. God is glorified by our faithfulness. So in all you do this day, practise faithfulness.

TOPIC: Submission to Civil Authority

KEY VERSE:
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” – (Romans 13:1)

READ: Romans 13:1-7 (KJV)

DEEPER LIFE DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

God is the Source of all authority and power. Therefore, the authority or power exercised by the government is by His permission. He has instituted the civil government among men in order to prevent anarchy. The government has the right to enact laws and regulations to maintain peace, law and order in the land, and so has the power to punish whoever breaks the law.

From the text, Apostle Paul exhorted the Roman believers and, by extension, all believers to submit to civil government as long as the government does not demand from them what would contradict the laws of God. Believers are to carry out all their duties and responsibilities to the government such as regular and faithful payment of taxes, obtainment and regular renewal of license and exercise of franchise at elections without submitting to corecion, intimidation or bribes.

Believers should not disobey or resist civil authority so as not to displease God who instituted the government. They should do this, not just for fear of penalties, but because of conscience and because they see these duties as further ways of acknowleging God’s rule in the world.

Christians should refrain from every form of dishonesty and disloyalty to the government. They should not be involved in smuggling, dealing in contraband goods, rebellion against the state, treason, riots or evading responsibilities. They should not join in the destruction and vandalisation of government properties. They should be diligent in government services just as they do in their private assignments. Anyone who is guilty of any of these should repent and be submissive to civil authorities as real Christians should.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
He disobeys God who disobeys His delegated authority.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Matthew 17-19
