Court affirms Fayemi as winner of Ekiti governorship

The Supreme court, on Wednesday, April 17, affirmed Governor Kayode Fayemi as the authentic winner of the 2018 governorship election held in Ekiti state.

The court affirmed that Fayemi’s victory in a suit filed by Chief Segun Oni, a chieftain of the All progressives Congress (APC), who contested against the governor during the party’s primaries.

In the suit, according to TVC, Oni had claimed that Fayemi was not eligible to run for the election as the candidate of the party.

Oni, a former governor of the state, claimed that Fayemi did not resign as minister of mines and steel development 30 days before the party’s primary election.

The former deputy national chairman of the APC, who came second in the APC governorship primary, further wanted Fayemi to be disqualified following his alleged indictment by a judicial commission of inquiry set up by former Governor Ayo Fayose.

A Federal High Court had earlier dismissed the report of the judicial commission which banned Fayemi from seeking political office for 10 years.
