Daily Reading for Friday January 22, 2021
Reading 1, Hebrews 8:6-13
Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 85:8, 10, 11-12, 13-14
Gospel, Mark 3:13-19

Reading 1, Hebrews 8:6-13
6 As it is, he has been given a ministry as far superior as is the covenant of which he is the mediator, which is founded on better promises.

7 If that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no room for a second one to replace it.

8 And in fact God does find fault with them; he says: Look, the days are coming, the Lord declares, when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah,

9 but not a covenant like the one I made with their ancestors, the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, and I too abandoned them, the Lord declares.

10 No, this is the covenant I will make with the House of Israel, when those days have come, the Lord declares: In their minds I shall plant my laws writing them on their hearts. Then I shall be their God, and they shall be my people.

11 There will be no further need for each to teach his neighbour, and each his brother, saying ‘Learn to know the Lord!’ No, they will all know me, from the least to the greatest,

12 since I shall forgive their guilt and never more call their sins to mind.

13 By speaking of a new covenant, he implies that the first one is old. And anything old and ageing is ready to disappear.

3 Jacob loved Joseph more than all his other sons, for he was the son of his old age, and he had a decorated tunic made for him.

4 But his brothers, seeing how much more his father loved him than all his other sons, came to hate him so much that they could not say a civil word to him.

12 His brothers went to pasture their father’s flock at Shechem.

13 Then Israel said to Joseph, ‘Your brothers are with the flock at Shechem, aren’t they? Come, I am going to send you to them.’ ‘I am ready,’ he replied.

17 The man answered, ‘They have moved on from here; indeed I heard them say, “Let us go to Dothan.” ‘ So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan.

18 They saw him in the distance, and before he reached them they made a plot to kill him.

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21
16 He called down famine on the land, he took away their food supply;

17 he sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.

18 So his feet were weighed down with shackles, his neck was put in irons.

19 In due time his prophecy was fulfilled, the word of Yahweh proved him true.

20 The king sent orders to release him, the ruler of nations set him free;

21 he put him in charge of his household, the ruler of all he possessed,

TOPIC: Break that Cycle

SCRIPTURE READING: 2 Kings 4: 1-7

FOCUS: “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.” (2 Kings 4: 1)

The woman in our Focal Scripture was married to one of the sons of the prophets who served under Elisha. That man died without dealing with the debt he owed; he also didn’t appear to meet Elisha for intervention. The creditor would have taken his sons to be bondmen, but his wife reached out to Elisha and the hand of negativity was turned back. His wife confronted the negativity that was about to swallow the family, and it was halted.

Friend, you may have inherited the negativity that others left behind, you may be caught in the midst of cycles that you did not begin, but God says, break the chains of negativity around you. Prayerfully interrupt the free course and free advancement of Satan in your family, health, marriage, business, community, city, nation, etc. Crush every token of evil you see around you. Cut short the reign of evil and negativity around you.

A man that served God under Elisha should have known enough to stop his family from being victims; but that man died, and left his wife to deal. Today, receive the grace to confront every inherited negativity. Receive the grace to pull down the altars of Satan that are still thriving around you. Receive the grace to crush the head of every leviathan within your space. Receive the grace to interrupt every plot of the enemy around you.

That widow could have lost her sons if she did nothing. If you do nothing to halt the hands of the enemy around you, you just might become a victim sooner than later. If you let the enemy continue his reign of evil and terror around you, he may come for what is important to you. You may not have been the one that invited the enemy into your home, marriage, ministry, etc, but do all within your powers to send him packing.

You are of that breed that does not give the gates of hell opportunities to thrive. Crush the negativity around you. Break the cycle of evil around you.

Ephesians 4: 27 says: “Neither give place to the devil.”

Declare With Me: I break every negative cycle around me, in Jesus’ name!

Daily Reading for Thursday March 4, 2021
Reading 1, Jeremiah 17:5-10
Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 1:1-2, 3, 4, 6
Gospel, Luke 16:19-31

Reading 1, Jeremiah 17:5-10
5 Yahweh says this, ‘Accursed be anyone who trusts in human beings, who relies on human strength and whose heart turns from Yahweh.

6 Such a person is like scrub in the wastelands: when good comes, it does not affect him since he lives in the parched places of the desert, uninhabited, salt land.

7 ‘Blessed is anyone who trusts in Yahweh, with Yahweh to rely on.

8 Such a person is like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream: when the heat comes it has nothing to fear, its foliage stays green; untroubled in a year of drought, it never stops bearing fruit.

9 ‘The heart is more devious than any other thing, and is depraved; who can pierce its secrets?

10 I, Yahweh, search the heart, test the motives, to give each person what his conduct and his actions deserve.

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 1:1-2, 3, 4, 6
1 How blessed is anyone who rejects the advice of the wicked and does not take a stand in the path that sinners tread, nor a seat in company with cynics,

2 but who delights in the law of Yahweh and murmurs his law day and night.

3 Such a one is like a tree planted near streams; it bears fruit in season and its leaves never wither, and every project succeeds.

4 How different the wicked, how different! Just like chaff blown around by the wind

6 For Yahweh watches over the path of the upright, but the path of the wicked is doomed.
