DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 15 December 2017- Judgement is Certain

DCLM Daily Manna Devotional 15 December 2017 – Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

Topic: Judgement is Certain

Bible Text: Judges 2:11-23

Key Verse: “And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that this people hath transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice” (Judges 2:20).

MESSAGE: The reason organizations have rules and regulations is for the orderly and decent conduct of their affairs. This is a necessary bedrock on which the successful attainment of the organization’s objectives depend. Obedience to such rules and regulations is of paramount importance. Failure to observe the rules attracts disciplinary measure. The history of the children of Israel, particularly their relationship with the Almighty is one that elicits a feeling of awe and indignation.

Today, they are on the mountain top obeying God implicitly; tomorrow, they are down the valley worshiping man-made idols. Yet, God would not utterly abandon them; He would send a prophet to warn them. God’s commandment ought to serve as a constant reminder of the benefit of obedience and the inescapable punishment for rebellion.

Baal worship involved cult, prostitution and child sacrifice. The prophets repeatedly condemned Baal worship with its associated sacrifices and warned the Israelites of the anger of God. They were, most times, far too gone to pay any heed. Soon, the nation began to decline “because they forsook the LORD and served Baal and Ashtoreth” (verse 13). The inevitable eventually happened to them as “the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel.”

He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:1).

Why not take a cue from the sad and unfortunate example of Israel and avoid courting God’s ire and indignation.

Thought for the day: To be stubborn and obstinate before God is to court His anger and Judgement.
