Bible Text: Luke 7:11-18 – Deeper Life Daily Manna 11 February 2018 Devotional

Key Verse: And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not” (Luke 7:13).

Message: Once during Queen Victoria’s reign, she heard that the wife of a common labourer had lost her baby. Having experienced deep sorrow herself, she felt moved to express her sympathy. So she called on the bereaved woman one day and spent some time with her. After she left, the neighbours asked what the queen had said. “Nothing,” replied the grieving mother. “She simply put her hands on mine, and we silently wept together.” (Deeper Life Daily Manna 11 February 2018 Devotional)

From our passage, Jesus came with His disciples and much people to the city of Nain where He interrupted a funeral by raising the young man back to life. He had identified the mother of the deceased, who was a poor widow, telling her to ‘weep not’. Then, He stopped the procession and commanded the dead man to rise and he came back to life.

The compassion of Jesus was such a great comfort to many in His days. That He could remember a poor widow in the obscure city of Nain, underscores His willingness to identify with the poor and suffering citizens of His nation. He knew just how heartbroken this poor widow was, trying to cope with the double tragedy of losing a husband and an only son. The mourners around her could provide little comfort as their power was limited. They could only weep with her and not be able to help the situation of the bereaved family.(Deeper Life Daily Manna 11 February 2018 Devotional)

No matter what we are passing through today, we must remember that Christ is never too late. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). He is our Joy, our Comfort and Hiding Place in the day of trouble. Let us trust Him, for He never comes late. His promise never to leave or forsake us is ever true.

Thought for the day: “…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
