TOPIC: Accountability In God’s House

TEXT: 2 CHRONICLES 24:1-14

Key Verse: “And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada” – 2 Chronicles 24:14

Faithfulness and accountability are essential qualities required in every worker both in the secular and in the house of God. The seventy disciples came back to give account of their exploits. Without accountability, the assignment given by the leader is not yet complete. The passage under consideration underscores the importance and influence of godly leadership of Jehoiada the high priest on the young King Joash.

The issue of the repair of the temple came up. Funds were raised. People generously made contributions and the money was faithfully dispensed for the work of the Lord. All the workmen were duly paid for their services and those who could not fully participate in the fundraising, worked free of charge with their hands and gifts.

At the end of the task, the rest of the treasure were brought before the king and Jehoiada by the faithful officers who were in charge of the account. There are lessons to be learnt here: our leaders should ensure they promote true and righteous worship in their own time and encourage the members to wholly serve the Lord; members of the church should be faithful and accountable in any section of the work of God assigned to them.

They should also be prompt in giving report to their leaders. Furthermore, believers must be faithful in giving for the work of the Lord more than the obligatory tithes and offering that all believers are expected to pay. Believers should equally be faithful in prayers, evangelism, commitment and in the selfless service of the Body of Christ.

Where all these are put in place in the church, there will be mutual trust among the brethren, progress in God’s work and prosperity for His people. Let us all endeavour to be true, faithful and accountable in all that are entrusted to us.

Thought For Today: Faithful stewardship breeds trust.
