Imo governor grants two weeks burial permission to residents
The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has permitted those who are bereaved in the state to use two weeks to bury their dead ones, uncertain of when the coronavirus scourge will be reduced.

The Governor stated this while briefing newsmen on Friday at the Government House, Owerri.

He said, “I feel the cries and pains of the people whose loved ones are in the mortuary. While we are still battling with the issue of coronavirus, I will give you the opportunity to go and bury your loved ones who have been in the mortuary.

“We are also aware of the repeated calls from mortuary owners on the piling up of dead bodies. I am, therefore, granting two weeks for burials.”

Governor Uzodinma, however, frowned at the level of violation of the government’s directives by Imo people, expressing displeasure on the addition of index cases of coronavirus in the state.

He threatened to impose more severe measures in curtailing the spread of the virus if the people continue to disobey government’s directives.

Meanwhile, he directed the security agents in the state to mount stronger surveillance at various state borders, insisting that interstate travels remain banned in the state.
