Messi doesn’t deserve to win the Ballon d’Or this year – Gerrard
Steven Gerrard believes Leo Messi does not deserve to win the 2019 Ballon d’Or Award, with Liverpool’s Vigirl van Dijk being the former Reds captain’s preferred choice.
The current Rangers coach spoke of his affection for the Barcelona forward, but feels that the Dutch defender had a better year.
“I’m Messi’s number one fan, for sure. I love the player.
“Obscene numbers in his game in terms of assists and goals.
“But if you talk about consistency from one player over a year, who wins the European Cup and is absolutely faultless in every performance, that means you deserve to win the Ballon d’Or,” he told William Hill.
The winner of the prize will be revealed on December 2 in Paris.
