There is a popular gospel song that says prayer is the master key. What this means is that prayer is the key that can open all doors, including the door of spiritual growth. Therefore, anyone who wishes to grow spiritually must be addicted to prayer. What is prayer? Simply put, prayer is communication with God. That is, talking to God and He talking back to you.
When we form the habit of praying all the time as the Bible admonishes us, then we get to know God the more and we develop a deeper relationship with Him. 2 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing. That is to say, do not stop praying.
A man of God called Smith Wigglesworth, in his answer to the question on how he was able to accomplish ceaseless praying, said he does not pray for more than ten minutes and does not stay for more than ten minutes without praying. It is the utmost desire of God that we have fellowship with Him, talk to Him and listen to His voice.
God actually enjoys fellowship with His children. The Bible talks about how God came to Adam and Eve in the cool of the day before and after the tragic fall. It is easy to believe then that He often fellowshipped with them at that same time of the day before the fall. He couldn’t have withheld His presence from them before they sinned and suddenly come down to them after they had sinned. It must have been a tradi-tion, which unfortunately ended with the fall of man.
Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed always to the Father. If it was important for Him to pray, it must then be crucial to our spiritual journey with the Lord. Prayer does so much for us in our spiritual growth because it is through prayer that we know the mind of God and follow it, thereby being at peace.
