Fire Scripture:
Acts 8:26-40
26 An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip. The angel said, “Get ready and go south on the road that leads down to Gaza from Jerusalem—the road that goes through the desert.”
27 So Philip got ready and went. On the road he saw a man from Ethiopia. He was a eunuch and an important official in the service of Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians. He was responsible for taking care of all her money. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship. 28 Now he was on his way home. He was sitting in his chariot reading from the book of Isaiah the prophet.
29 The Spirit said to Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” 30 So he went toward the chariot, and he heard the man reading from Isaiah the prophet. Philip asked him, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 The man answered, “How can I understand? I need someone to explain it to me.” Then he invited Philip to climb in and sit with him. 32 The part of the Scriptures that he was reading was this:
“He was like a sheep being led to the butcher.
He was like a lamb that makes no sound as its wool is being cut off.
He said nothing.
33 He was shamed, and all his rights were taken away.
His life on earth has ended.
So there will be no story about his descendants.”
34 The official said to Philip, “Please, tell me, who is the prophet talking about? Is he talking about himself or about someone else?” 35 Philip began to speak. He started with this same Scripture and told the man the Good News about Jesus.
36 While they were traveling down the road, they came to some water. The official said, “Look, here is water! What is stopping me from being baptized?” 37 38 Then the official ordered the chariot to stop. Both Philip and the official went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away; the official never saw him again. The official continued on his way home. He was very happy. 40 But Philip appeared in a city called Azotus. He was going to the city of Caesarea. He told people the Good News in all the towns on the way from Azotus to Caesarea.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 20TH JULY 2023
We shall continue to learn more from evangelist Philip, a man of commitment and dedication to the service of God. He started with being one of those who were set apart for a peculiar assignment in the body of Christ at that time. Humble as the assignment was, he ended up doing great exploits for God through his ministry to multitudes and individuals. A true evangelist indeed!
Philip was a people’s person, a master at resolving conflicts. He demonstrated this at the time the seven deacons were appointed in Acts 6:5. Obviously, there was peace amongst the brethren through their ministration. Filled with the Holy Spirit, his ministry was notable for signs and wonders, so much that people listened attentively to his preaching, followed by healing and deliverance in Acts 8:8. Even Simon, the sorcerer, and the people of Samaria confessed that truly, he carried the power of God.
How much of God do you carry in you? Can people see you, listen to you, and declare the same? Can you be listed among the men of honor, faith, and wisdom like the seven deacons? Can you quickly go on preaching with the manifestation of persecution right under your nose? Will you stand for Christ and Him alone, even in a strange land? All of these questions and more will help you do a self-evaluation of your ministry and service like Philip, if you must fulfill your divine calling.
Philip was ready to go for the Lord without hesitation! He fulfilled his ministry without struggles. This happened simply because he was a man of humility and obedience. He obeyed the leading of the Holy Spirit without reservation. As soon as he was done with his divine assignment in Samaria, there was an angelic instruction to go to another place where the Holy Spirit had another assignment for him on the road leading to Gaza.
This was a divine direction and preparation for the gospel to reach out to Africa. Unknown to Philip, he had a divine appointment with the Ethiopian eunuch to explain to him what he was reading but had no understanding (Acts 8:30-31). He was a man of patience and deep understanding of God’s Word. He ended up baptizing the Ethiopian eunuch after leading him to Christ.
Beloved brothers and sisters, how well do you listen to or hear the Holy Spirit? Do you ever wait for God to lead you, or do you go all the way just by yourself? Listen to the Word of God in Proverbs 3:5-7, if truly you’re a child of God, you will not lean on your own wisdom, strength, or understanding. Rather, you will acknowledge God, and He will direct your ways.
That was what Philip did. Just that! He was a humble servant of God who simply took instructions, and that was it. No wonder he served successfully without struggles. May that be your portion, in the Name of Jesus.
