Rescue crews struggle to reach motorists trapped after tree crashes onto road

Six people have been injured after a large tree fell on cars as they travelled along a a busy main road on Sunday afternoon.

Rescue crews worked to free the motorists who became trapped in a Mini Cooper convertible and grey Mercedes B Class.

Three people have been seriously injured, one taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

As reported by Get Surrey , the incident happened along Guildford Road in Chertsey, Surrey at around 12.30pm.

Two Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulances landed in a field nearby with one being used to transport a patient.

Eye-witness John Lee said: “It’s a huge tree, the whole road was completely blocked when I got there.

“There was someone trapped in the Mini, I could see paramedics trying to reach them.

“They were struggling to get to the car.

“There was also another car stuck under the tree, there were lots of car horns going off.

“I hope they are all okay.”
