In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Obi explained that the move came after serious reflection on the nation’s current economic, security, and leadership challenges, stressing the urgent need for transformative leadership.
“Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections, with Senator David Mark appointed as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary,” Obi revealed.
The coalition, which brings together influential political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, officially endorsed the ADC during a high-profile unveiling in Abuja on Tuesday.
Obi, 63, who has publicly proposed serving a single term if elected, emphasized the importance of unity in overcoming Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges.
“To dismantle the structures that keep our people trapped in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls — even when those bridges are uneasy,” he stated.
Obi concluded by assuring Nigerians that the coalition’s goal is to deliver a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people and the long-term future of the nation.
