Police arrest prime suspect in Omoku killings

The police have arrested Desmond Okotubo, the prime suspect in the January 1 killings in Omoku, Rivers State.

At least 15 persons were killed in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State, as they were returning from church on New Year day.

Parading Okorubo, on Thursday in Abuja, the Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, explained that the suspect was picked up at his hideout in Mpape, a ghetto community in Abuja.

He stated that the 32-year-old suspect from Egbema in Rivers State, admitted to his involvement in the attack alongside the commander of his gang, Chief Igwedibia, aka General Don Wanni, who was gunned down by soldiers in Enugu a few days ago.

Moshood also disclosed that six members of the gang were killed during a gun duel that lasted hours.

He said, “The IGP-Intelligence Response Team, working on actionable intelligence identified Desmond Okotubo who escaped on January 3, 2018 to Abuja after a shootout with the police team in a location in Imo State.

“He was trailed to Mpape in Abuja where he was arrested after serious resistance on the January 9.

Okotubo, a native of Egbema, confessed to be one of the masterminds of the gang and actively participated in the killing of innocent people in Omoku, Rivers State, on New Year day.”

Meanwhile, government have demolished mansion owned by notorious kidnaper and murderer, Don Wanni, who was killed recently.
