The World Cup Defending champions Germany has lost to Mexico after a dramatic 90 minutes. The goal was scored in the 35th minute by Hirving Lozano.

Mexico took a deserved lead and it is regarded as a stunning goal. Hernandez gets the better of Hummels on the halfway line and when he receives the ball back, it’s two on one.

The forward decides to play in Lozano to his left, who switches the ball onto his right foot before drilling a low shot into the corner from 10 yards.

Both teams had strong support in Russia, but Mexico’s was clearly apparent during the national anthems, with the pro-El Tri crowd belting out theirs, much to the delight of Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez.

Mexico got its deserved lead in the 35th minute. El Tri completed a beautiful counterattack, with Herrera sparking the counter in the centre of the park and finding Chicharito.

The Mexico all-time leading scorer slipped a pass to a streaking Lozano on the right channel, where the PSV winger cut back to his right foot and beat Neuer low and inside the near post.

Germany nearly struck moments later, with Kroos pounding the crossbar on a free kick, with an acrobatic Ochoa appearing to tip it off the bar to preserve Mexico’s lead.

Germany is the defending champions having emerged victorious in Brazil four years ago, but the teams Low’s team head into this fixture having won just one of their last half-a-dozen contests.

Mexico has reached the second round on their last six appearances in this tournament, but Juan Carlos Osorio’s team have only won one of their four most recent games.

The two nations are meeting at the World Cup for the fourth time with Germany having won matches held in 1978, 1986 and 1998 respectively.
