Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th August 2023 Message:

It will be useful to read the full story of Azariah (also called Uzziah) in 2 Chronicles 26. We will appreciate more the great things God did through him, the victories he won with God’s help, the impact of godly mentor and the reason for the unfortunate affliction that befell him at the end of his life. Starting the race indeed is not as important as ending it well and victoriously. Ensure to write in your notebook, the lessons you learn from the life of Azariah and determine to remain faithful to the Lord and shun every appearance of evil and, especially, pride or overestimation of yourself.

While descendants of David continue to reign in Judah, in fulfilment of God’s promise to him, Israel was experiencing coups and countercoups. Why was this the case (see v.9). When leaders decide not to follow and serve the Lord but pursue evil and ungodliness, lack of peace, killings, insecurity, etc is not far from such leader and nation. Shallum sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind. A man reaps whatever he sows. Notice the utter wickedness of Menahem (v.16). How much like what some Islamic jihadists still do today. Everyone will one day account for all their evil actions.
