OPENING PRAYER: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 2 Kings 16:1-20
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
MESSAGE: Ahaz’s father and grandfather were both godly kings. One wonders how godly men like them should produce such godless king. Following God is an individual decision. Ahaz decided to go in the wrong direction, and he did that to the extreme. Notice in vs.2-4 the summary of his evils. He did that which God’s law forbids and which even the pagan nations detest, engaging in what appears to be human sacrifice. These evils are expounded in our passage.
When the enemies waged war against him, he placed his trust in a human being instead of God. It worked, or so it appears! That some actions we take achieve their aim does not make them right. Notice what he had to do to win the support of the Assyrian king (v.8). He went further to destroy the temple and render it non-functional (vs.17,18). In its stead, he erected a ‘beautiful’ altar, a replica of the pagan altar in Damascus. Are our beautiful church buildings places of true worship or mere architectural edifices. And how unfortunate that the priest, the one who should give spiritual direction, just went along with the king’s evil actions. Are our current-day spiritual leaders any different? We need Christian leaders who will not compromise their faith with our political leaders.

Help me, dear Lord, to love you dearly and follow you closely.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
► Pray for our youths that God will help them take to godly advice.
► Ask God to protect them against the wild culture that has become the pattern for the day.
► Believe God for their salvation.
