TOPIC: A Cry For Justice

OPENING PRAYER: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 35: 1‐14

SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 18TH NOVEMBER 2022 OUTLINE

The psalmist calls upon God to fight on his behalf against people who want to harm him unjustly. He appeals to the Lord (The Almighty God), the righteous Judge of heaven and earth against his enemies who hate and persecute him. Which weapons of war does David request God to use in his defence (vs.1‐3)?

God is a warrior. Read vs.4‐8 again and identify the requests David made against those pursuing him. How does this compare with Romans 12:17‐20? In the circumstances that David found himself, it is human to cry out for justice from God against the enemies. We appeal for justice when we encounter social‐economic injustices or we are deprived of our basic rights or when we spot oppression, disempowerment, corruption, greed and other social injustice.

The cry for justice is consistent with the human nature. Faced with injustice, it is instructive to remember that there is a dependable God who loves us. Contrast the injustice meted out to (against) David by his enemies with how he handled them when they were in need (vs.13‐14). Let us remember that amidst injustice, God remains our Salvation and strong Defender, worthy of praise and adoration (vs.9‐10).
