TOPIC: Jehu, the New Anointed King of Israel

Opening Prayer:  Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture: 2 Kings 9:1-16

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

MESSAGE: Jehu, one of Israel’s army commanders (v.5), is first mentioned in 1 Kings 19:16-17 where the Lord asked Elijah to anoint him king over the northern kingdom of Israel. Observe that this command is now carried out by a young prophet at Elisha’s request (v.3).

At that time, Joram, son of evil king Ahab (1 Kings 16.29-30), was king of Israel (v.15), of the dynasty of the wicked king Omri, his grandfather (1 Kings 16.23,25). As we cannot have two kings at one time, we understand that Jehu will be the next king after Joram. He is like David who was anointed king while Saul was already king (1 Samuel 16:1-13).

Observe how a prophet in those days was seen by the “wise” (v.11). It is true that some people pretend to speak on behalf of God but when tested, their messages prove to be false. Unfortunately, even today, God’s children who reveal God’s thoughts and prophecies are also treated as mad and carriers of false message. Let us not be discouraged to continue proclaiming the message that God asks us to give. His words always come true.
