Scripture Union Daily Guide 23rd June 2024 (Sunday) Devotional Message
TOPIC: Distinguishing Between The Clean And Unclean
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.
SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 11:24-47
Question(s) for Reflection
* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 23rd June 2024 Outline:
Go through the passage again. Count how many times the word “unclean” appears. What does this suggest about God’s disposition to contact with unclean things?
In Uganda, after the Joseph Kony war ended and many of the abducted children returned, elaborate cleansing rituals took place all over the area. Though it was unable to bring more than ceremonial cleansing, the practice revealed an African understanding that sin and death kept people from God’s presence. Similarly, the law was unable to cleanse the conscience from the results of sin. Only the death of Jesus Christ could do that (Hebrews 9:13-14; 10:22).
What then was the purpose of these laws (vs 43-45, 47)? The law obviously had health benefits, but the purpose is more than physical hygiene; it is a call to total obedience to God and holy living (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1). We also need the ability to discern between “the clean” and “the unclean” (1 Corinthians 2:13-16) in order to live as God’s people in a world that rejects God’s truth as absolute.
Practice/Word Application
So what? Let your inward life agree with your outward appearance, otherwise your lifestyle may hinder the message of the gospel.

Take My Life, and Let It Be
1 Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.
2 Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love
. Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.
3 Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.
4 Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.
5 Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.
6 Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help me to keep this fact in focus and live by it daily.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 62:5 ‐ 7
5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
