TOPIC: Prophecy About Cush
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Isaiah 18:1-7
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?
Observe the description of the land and its people (vs.1-2). The correct location of Cush (Ethiopia) is not clear and could cover the entire region spanning modern day Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia. Significantly, there is no rebuke or judgment against Cush announced in this chapter. Read vs.3-6 and notice the apparent rejection of Judah’s alliance with Cush by God, “I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place…” God is more than able to deal with the Assyrians Himself. If He had wanted to muster an army against Assyria, He would have raised a banner or sounded a trumpet (v.3). But for now, He can take His rest without the help of the Cushites.
Reflect on vs.5-6. How will the Assyrians look like once God has dealt with them? Isaiah announces a day when the Cushites will come and worship the LORD and bring gifts to Him, to Mount Zion (v.7). How does this compare with Acts 8:26-40? Mount Zion, here referred to as “the place of the name of the Lord of hosts” was formerly called the city of David (2 Samuel 5:7; 1 Kings 8:1). But all believers have come to a new Mount Zion, described as the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God (Hebrews 12:22-24).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
