TOPIC: Nowhere Else To Go

Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, fill me with the power of the Holy Ghost as I study your word.

Scripture: 2 KINGS 19: 1-19

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 3rd September 2023 Outline:

What do you do, and to whom do you go when you receive bad news—medical report, examination results, or interview outcome? Job’s example is worth noting (Job 1:13-22)? King Hezekiah’s action—humility, repentance and acknowledging God (v.1), provides a good example to follow when we encounter challenges. Hezekiah solicits additional spiritual support from Prophet Isaiah, urging him to pray (vs.2-4). Praying for and helping one another are biblical ways by which Christians support one another to fight the good fight.

The threatening letter King Sennacherib sent to king Hezekiah (vs.10-13) is an old tactics enemies employ to weaken the faith of those who trust in God. How can Exodus 14:13-14 and Isaiah 41:10 help us to counter such a faith-weakening strategy of the enemy? (Refer also to 1 Peter 5:8, 9.)

The way the king handled the letter he received (v.14) appears sensational, but it was helpful in raising confidence. Read Hezekiah’s prayer in vs.14-19 again and note four faith-building truths that can sustain us in times of distress. See also 2 Chronicles 32:7,8 for Hezekiah’s encouraging words to his people at that time that inspired confidence in them.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Lord, I trust in you. Help me never to forget to turn to you in time of difficulties. Be gracious to me; I long for you. Be my strength every morning, my salvation in time of distress (Isaiah 33:2).

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 1:7
