TOPIC: Praising the King of the Nations!
OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 47:1-9
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 3: Is there any command for me to obey?
MESSAGE: What can you identify as the purpose of this psalm from vs.1, 6 &7?
This is a liturgical song in celebration of the God of Israel as the King of the universe. The psalmist composed this song to spur us and all people on earth to praise God. Some commentators believe that the psalm was written when the ark of God was brought to Mount Zion (see 2 Samuel 6:17). This idea derives from the expression “God had gone up with a shout…” (v.5). But v.5 also looks toward the ascension of Christ into the heavenly Zion, after he had finished the work of our redemption and established His kingdom in the world (see Acts 1:9; Hebrews 9:24).
The psalmist urges us to worship and praise God because of His awesomeness, greatness, and sovereignty. Check out other reasons in vs.3, 7-9. What does it mean or take to sing praises with understanding (v.7)?
However, several nations are yet to acknowledge Christ as King. For v.9 to be fulfilled, we must step up our effort in evangelisation and discipleship of the world.
PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
So What? A very large percentage of the world’s population are still under the yoke of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and other religions. Pray that they would all soon join in praise of Christ the King of the nations.
