Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th October 2023 Outline:
In several places in the bible, we have read that the Lord is slow to anger (See Psalm 103:8; 145:8). However, that does not mean the Lord does not get angry. Here we see His anger burning against Israel (v.19).
He had used the Assyrians to attack and conquer them to show His anger with their idolatrous life. But then they did not acknowledge that God had brought such a calamity on them and failed to repent. Does that sound familiar? God is not the author of evil but can very well use it to get our attention. When we refuse to give the Lord His rightful place, we fall under God’s judgment (vs.15-17).
V.7 says the Government will be upon his shoulders. They forget that it is God who controls the universe and refuse to accept that they were being destroyed because of their refusal to repent. In like manner, with all that is going on around us, has it changed our thinking? There is so much injustice and deception around us and some of us are partakers. Our God is a loving God. He wants us all to repent so that as He comes for a spotless church, we will be among the saints (Ephesians 5:27).
