Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 September 2023 Outline:

What constitutes genuine repentance? Josiah’s repentance manifested itself in practical action to remove the practices which constitute sin in the eyes of God. He got the whole nation to pledge themselves to keep God’s covenant, after he had renewed the covenant (v.3). What followed after Josiah had made his pledge? (Read vs.4-6.) Josiah took practical action to cleanse the temple of all the detestable objects of idolatry which had been introduced by his predecessors. His determination to restore true worship of Yahweh was massive and thorough: it was a radical reformation of temple worship in Judah.

Genuine repentance must be evidenced in our daily conduct: a complete turn-around from our previous behaviour. It must result in a radical uprooting of every form of evil in our lives without any form of compromise whatsoever. Josiah’s example teaches us how radical true reformation (repentance) must be. Are there any situations in your life in which you find yourself compromising the standards to which God has called us?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Lord, grant us grace to walk faithfully in the paths of righteousness all the days of our lives.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Acts 1:8
