Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 September 2023 Outline:

Why does Paul remind them of the gospel (vs.1-2)? Some in the church were in danger of not continuing in the faith. It was, therefore, of utmost importance that the gospel is proclaimed again. Notice the content of the gospel in vs.3-4 (see also Romans 4:25).

The birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ are the solid pillars of the Christian faith. Paul stresses the resurrection story to the Corinthian Christians to confirm the authenticity of their faith. Truly, our faith is worth living for and dying for. This was what helped Paul and Christians of the early church to fearlessly stand their ground amid fierce trials and persecutions. It is the basis of our living hope.

In vs.5-8, we have a list of those who were eyewitnesses of the resurrection. Why does Paul stress Christ’s appearance to these faithful believers? People could check the truth of what Paul was saying because at the time of writing this letter, a good number of these witnesses were alive. The fact that Christ died and rose again is our assurance that God loves us and will raise us up to live with Him forever.
