FOCUS: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23: 1)
Streams of Joy Devotional 6 June 2023 MESSAGE:
In our Focal Scripture, the psalmist declared that the Lord is his shepherd. In bible times, one of the ways through which a shepherd rescued his sheep was by hearing the cries of the sheep. When the sheep cries out in a broken voice, it sends a signal to the shepherd that there is need to rescue the sheep. The cries of the sheep in a broken state causes the shepherd to come closer. The cries of the sheep, draws the shepherd nearer.
Friend, as we gradually approach the end of the first half of 2023, make a commitment to always cry out to the Shepherd. Call on the Shepherd that sees you and speaks over you. Let the Lord hear your cries to Him. Let the Lord hear you call unto Him. Let the Lord see your willingness to depend wholly on Him. Let the Lord see your vulnerability in His hands. Let the Lord see your willingness to have Him rescue you.
This is not that season where the Lord will never hear your voice. This is not that season where your intimacy with God will be on a decline. This is not that season where you will be a stranger or visitor in the secret place. This is not that season where you will be content to live your life without constant communication with the Lord. This is not that season where you will trudge on without your voice being heard by the Shepherd.
The sheep cries out to the shepherd because it is broken by nature. In this season, be broken before your Maker. Brokenness does not get used to the person of Jesus. Brokenness does not care about the accolades of men but seeks more intimacy and validation from Jesus. Brokenness does not become familiar with the words of God. Brokenness does not trivialize an opportunity to be with God. Brokenness cares about the inner man.
Remember, the Shepherd responds to the sheep because He hears the cries of a broken sheep. Stay in the place of brokenness and the Shepherd will always respond to your calls.
1 Peter 3: 12 says: “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
