Streams of Joy Devotional July 20, 2023 Thursday Daily Devotional Message by Pastor Jerry Eze

WATCH: NSPPD 20 July 2023 Live Prayers: The Lord Said Yes

TOPIC: God Above Men

FOCUS: “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.” (1 Samuel 16: 1)

Streams Of Joy Devotional July 20, 2023 MESSAGE:

In 1 Samuel 15 vs. 21, Saul gave reasons why he opted to disobey God. Saul made mention of how the people encouraged him to preserve what God would have him destroy. He placed human ideas ahead of God’s command and it cost him his throne. He allowed people to make him do what heaven would not have him do. He allowed people to make him do what would offend God. He offended God in order to please people.

Friend, don’t make the mistake of Saul: don’t offend God simply because you are trying to please mere mortals. Don’t make the mistake of elevating human ideas above God’s ideas. Don’t allow suggestions and ideas of mere men to make you go against what God would have you do. Don’t be caught in that place where you fail God because you want to be seen to be compliant with the ideas of men. Don’t fail God because of men.

Saul kept considering what men would think or say, and he failed the God who mattered more than men. He wanted to please the men who called him king, and he failed the One who took him to the throne. No matter how pressed you are, never make the mistake of allowing the applause of men to position you in the posture of disobedience. Don’t allow how knowledgeable men are, to make you accept what heaven would have you reject.

The God who made Saul to become king, had terms and conditions that He would have Saul abide by. Saul’s rising to the throne of Israel was not intended to make him live in disobedience. If God has lifted you, don’t allow the lifting to become an occasion for disobedience. If God has favoured you above your contemporaries, don’t allow it become occasion for sinful living. Don’t let men put you in conflict with the God who raised you.

When the chips are down, remember that there is a God who matters more than any man on earth. Don’t allow mere mortals to put you in conflict with heaven. Don’t allow men to make you offend God.

Acts 5: 29 says: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”

DECLARATION: No man will make me offend God; I choose God over men, in Jesus’ name!
