Trump to meet President of Mexico just hours before key speech on controversial immigration policy

US – The presidential hopeful has vowed to build a border wall between the countries and deport illegal immigrants en masse.

Donald Trump is to meet with the President of Mexico, just hours before he delivers a key speech on his controversial immigration policy.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto confirmed he will meet the Republican presidential hopeful privately in Mexico City today.

Trump has been outspoken in his views on Mexican immigrants, once branding them ‘drugs mules’ and ‘rapists’.

Peña Nieto invited both Trump and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to visit Mexico, a spokesman for the Presidency said.

Trump confirmed the meeting in a tweet.

He wrote: “I have accepted the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto, of Mexico, and look very much forward to meeting him tomorrow.”

In his speech in Arizona, Trump will detail where he stands on illegal immigration after worrying some conservative allies when he said last week he was “softening” his stance on mass deportations.

Trump aides said he would reaffirm his determination to build a border wall to curtail new illegal crossings and to quickly deport illegal immigrants who have committed crimes in the United States.

But the central question facing Trump was how he would treat the majority of the 11 million illegal immigrants who have set down roots in their communities and obeyed US laws, an issue that has plagued the immigration debate for years.
