Daily Fountain Devotional 22 May 2020 – Staying Together in His Presence

Daily Fountain Devotional 22 May 2020 for Anglican Communion

TOPIC: Staying Together in His Presence

TEXT: Acts 1:12-14(NKJV)
12. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.
13. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James [the son] of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas [the son] of James.
14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

STUDY: After Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven, the apostles returned to Jerusalem and went upstairs to the room where they were staying (vs. 12-13). Notice that among those present in the room were the following persons:

i) The remaining eleven apostles;
ii) Certain women who were not named;
iii) Mary the mother of Jesus;
iv) The brothers of Jesus.

Daily Fountain Devotional 22 May 2020 -: It is interesting to note that as they all stayed together they had one major activity – prayer. Verse 14 tells us that all of them participated together constantly in prayer. This shows that this assembly had a sense of unity and reverence for God. Observe that by this time the brothers of Jesus had believed in Him (v.14).

Praying constantly is a Christian virtue that should be emulated as commanded in the Scriptures (1 Thess. 5:17). Let us learn from the disciples to constantly pray for our nation, the Church and for all members of our families, especially every morning and night. Remember that the family that prays together stays together. May God bless you as you decide to always spend quality time together with your family in God’s presence.

DAILY QUOTE: “For You, O God, have proved us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; but You brought us out to rich fulfillment.” (Psalm 66:10)

PRAYER: : Help me O God to always participate in prayers at home and in the church. Amen.
