Daily Fountain Devotional 28 March 2020 – The Supremacy of Christ

TOPIC: The Supremacy of Christ

SCRIPTURE: Colossians 1:13-20

MESSAGE: Paul, continuing his prayers for the Colossian Church, praises the Lordship of Christ over creation and redemption and analyses the works of Christ, explaining that Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God (v.15a). “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature” (Heb. 1:3a,ESV). The phrase ‘first born over all creation’does not mean Christ was created, ratherHe existed eternally with the Father and the Holy Ghost and created all things for Himself, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers(v.16).

Many Colossians greatly feared evil spirits and called on angels for help and protection (Col. 2:18).As a result of this, Paul reminded them of Christ’s supremacy in dealing with demonic powers (Col. 2:15). Just as God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt (Exo. 14:30), He has now delivered us from Satan and the powers of evil (Acts 26:18) and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, having redeemed us through His blood and forgiven our sins.

Daily Fountain Devotional 28 March 2020: Christ continually sustains His creation, preventing it from disintegrating. (v.17) Hebrews 1:3 (ESV) says “…and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.” He is the head of the body, the Church, who is the beginning, the first born from the dead that in all things He may have the pre-eminence. Jesus not only bears God’s glory, but all that God is also dwells in Him. Jesus is God. The basis of Christ’s reign of peace is the blood of His Cross.

PRAYER POINT: Help me Oh God to fully understand what You have done for me on the Cross and appropriate it in my life. Amen

DAILY QUOTE: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
