TOPIC: Seek The Lord
TEXT: ZEPHANIAH 2:1-15
KEY VERSE: “Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger” (Zephaniah 2:3).
MESSAGE: Our God is merciful; yet, He is a God of judgment. He has reserved a day in which he would judge the world for her wickedness. Jesus established the certainty of this end-time judgment: “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven…and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other” (Matthew 24:30, 31).

Verse 4 to 15 of the text explains the inevitability of God’s judgment upon nations that made themselves enemies of Judah. Similarly, God’s judgment upon all categories of sinners and backsliders all over the world is imminent. “The great day of the Lord is near, it is near; and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly” (Zephaniah 1:14).
The only escape route from the imminent indignation is to “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” (Isaiah 55:6, 7). Mercy and pardon await every penitent sinner who comes to the Lord in genuine repentance.

Sinners should repent and turn away from their sins and come to Him with a broken and contrite heart to receive forgiveness and pardon. It is dangerous to face the awful judgment of God!
