TOPIC: The Right Fruit

TEXT: Jeremiah 24:1-10

KEY VERSE:
“What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes” – (Isaiah 5:4).

DCLM DAILY MANNA 27 JUNE 2019 MESSAGE:
Jean de la Bruyere, a French moralist who lived from 1645 -1696 said: “There exist some evils so terrible and some misfortunes so horrible that we dare not think of them… but if they happen to fall on us; we find ourselves stronger than we imagined we grapple with our ill luck, and behave better than we expected we should.”

In life, there are two sides to everything. There are good and bad; day and night; white and black; obedience and disobedience, etc.

In the passage today, the Bible talks about “good figs.” These were the exiles that were already in captivity. The “bad figs” were those who still remained in Jerusalem. There was a difference in the hearts of the two groups. The good figs would repent and return to the Lord.

The “bad figs”, however, would continue to walk after the desires of their own hearts. Those who were in captivity would come to understand that God can be found whenever a believer is located.

God is not confined to a particular land, nor is He bound to the ceremonies of any particular religious order or temple. He is omnipresent and who lives in the hearts of the obedient.

On the other hand, the bad figs of Jerusalem were trusting that God would not allow either Jerusalem or the temple to be destroyed. These figs would be scattered. Simply because they had escaped the first captivity did not mean that they would escape future raids on Judah by the Babylonians.

The good that would come from their trial and captivity would be their repentance. And in repenting, they would give birth to a repentant generation who would, in the future, restore the existence of Israel for the coming of the Messiah.

As believers, we must always strive to be good figs in the midst of bad ones. In doing so, we win the world for Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Strive to be different… bear the right fruit!
