Bayelsa State Governor-elect David Lyon has said his priority and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to develop Bayelsa.
Lyon, who spoke at an annual oil, gas and family thanksgiving service in his Olugbobiri home in Southern Ijaw, said he was indebted to the people.
He said 2020 would be one of the best years in the state, adding that God chose him to lead and develop the state.
Lyon urged the people to pray for him and to embrace forgiveness, unity, love and peace.
He said: “If anybody had told me that David Lyon, from Olugbobiri community, would be an elected governor of our state, I wouldn’t have believed it. But God has made it possible.
“Today is the beginning of 2020. By February 14, by the grace of God, I will be sworn in as governor. I believe God will use me to do something for Bayelsa. I started my life with prayers and I know that God will do something for us.
“We need not be afraid because the task to rule Bayelsa has been given by God, and we must fulfil it; not for David Lyon but for the people. In my campaigns, I specifically maintained that Bayelsa money is not David Lyon’s money. I owe it as a debt. The money for Bayelsa will be used for Bayelsans.
“I am wishing Bayelsans that 2020 will be one of the best years. We will not go to the Government House to play. When we tackle security, investors will come. I am also asking youths to come together and help in building our state; nobody will help us to develop the state and our communities. This is our time.”
