Topic: Create the Right Atmosphere
Scripture: If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. — Romans 12:18 (AMPC)
Message: If we want to hear from God, we need to create an atmosphere conducive to His presence. By atmosphere, I mean the environment or predominant mood that surrounds us. Atmosphere is created by attitudes, and certain attitudes can either enhance or hinder our relationship with God. To really hear from Him, we need an atmosphere of peace, and we can maintain peace by our attitudes of faith in God and willingness to forgive those we might be upset with.
When strife is present, we can feel it in the atmosphere. In the same way, we can sense peace in places where people and situations are at peace, and we should work to create and maintain peaceful atmospheres wherever we go, because we cannot hear from God in the midst of turmoil.
To enjoy the fullness of God’s presence, we need to consistently maintain an honoring, loving, atmosphere in our hearts. An attitude of strife and dissension doesn’t create an inviting atmosphere where God will speak, but He will speak in a calm atmosphere where peoples’ hearts—and minds—are at peace and full of love.
Prayer Starter: Father, please help me to cultivate an attitude and atmosphere of peace in my life. I need and want to hear Your voice more than anything else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
