Kano Election: Ganduje’s aide resigns, joins PDP

Hashim Dungurawa, senior special assistant on urban beautification to Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has resigned.

Dungurawa tendered his letter of resignation to Usman Alhaji, secretary to the state government, on Wednesday.

In the letter, the aide thanked the governor for offering him the opportunity to serve the state.

”I write to formally inform you of my voluntary resignation from the office of SSA, Beautification. I thank you for offering me the opportunity to serve under your administration as SSA,” the letter read.

He attributed his resignation to the failure of Ganduje to concede the election to Abba Yusuf, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, whom he claimed won the March 9 election.

According to him, Ganduje ought to have concede so as to “serve as a precedent to other Muslims who serve Allah in truth and sincerity”.

However, he later told reporters that he was defecting to the PDP.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the state gubernatorial election inconclusive because the number of cancelled votes was higher than the margin between the two candidates.

Yusuf polled a total of 1,014,353 votes ahead of Ganduje who secured 953,522 votes, leaving a margin of 26,655 votes.

A total of 100,873 votes were cancelled in the election. A supplementary election will hold in the affected polling units in the state on March 23.
