MFM Daily Devotional 19 December 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Lessons From The Life Of Esau

TOPIC: Lessons From The Life Of Esau

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jonah; Revelation 10

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 25:29-34

MEMORY VERSE: “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.” – Hebrews 12:16

MESSAGE: It is unfortunate that many people, including believers, are repeating the mistakes that so many Bible characters made in their days. This is not supposed to be so because their stories are recorded to serve as warning and guide to us.

Esau is remembered by many Christians as the man who lost his inheritance. The Bible chronicles how, when and why Esau lost his inheritance. It went to such a great detail so that we would learn, be careful and not lose our inheritance in Christ as New Testament believers. Esau was a hunter (Genesis 25:33). He was an impulsive man who was dominated by appetite (Genesis 25:32).

In Genesis 25:29-34 (our Fire Scripture for today), we read how Esau sold his birthright through an unfavourable bargain because he could not bridle his appetite. We also saw that Esau exhibited folly, in that he lacked appreciation for higher things. He adjudged a plate of meal to be more important than his birthright which had unquantifiable value. Hence, he lost the birthright.

The truth is that whatever you disdain or fail to know its value, you will abuse, misuse and eventually lose. Esau said, “Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?” Samson did not fully understand the worth of the anointing and grace of God upon his life. He treated them with levity and lost them to carelessness and folly on Delilah’s lap.

Gehazi underestimated the double portion of Elisha’s anointing as well as the unusual glory ahead of him. He too lost the opportunity to covetousness and dishonesty. Judas did not know the inestimable worth of apostleship, he lost his position, office and destiny to filthy lucre and covetousness. Today, many New Testament believers are losing their divine inheritance to sexual immorality, stealing and other kinds of vices.

Another act of folly that Esau committed was that he married a heathen wife. In Genesis 26:34-35, the Bible says, “And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: Which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.” With this foolish act, Esau moved himself further away from the inheritance.

God had expressly spoken that His children were not to marry from heathen ladies. That act displeased his parents and God. Eventually, in Genesis 27:30-38, Esau lost his blessing to Jacob. Let us note that, although Jacob in collaboration with Rebecca, their mother, plotted to supplant Esau and take his blessing, Esau himself permitted what befell him by his own foolishness and the bad choices he made.

MFM Daily Devotional 19 December 2019 – Lessons From The Life Of Esau

Beloved, do not be impulsive; do not be dominated by your appetite; value spiritual things more than earthly and mundane ones; don’t marry an unbeliever; guard your blessing jealously, don’t lose it. Put a genuine relationship with God ahead of all other things. You will not lose your birthright and blessing to the enemy, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
You can learn great things from your mistakes when you are not busy denying them.

PROPHETIC WORD:
I BIND AND CAST THE SPIRIT OF ESAU OUT OF MY LIFE BY FIRE.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. I bind and cast out the spirit of impulsiveness, in the name of Jesus.
2. I bind and cast out the spirit of error, in the name of Jesus.
3. I shall not sell my birthright, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. I will not lose my blessing, in the name of Jesus.
5. Supplanters of my father’s house, supplanters of my mother’s house, your time is up, die, in the name of Jesus.
6. I refuse to give the enemy any undue advantage to destroy my destiny, in the name of Jesus.
7. My office, position and blessing will not be given to another person, in the name of Jesus.
