God has done His own duty through the redemption of man. The redeemed man or woman (a Christian) also owes God the duty to grow into the image of Christ (Hebrews 9:14). From our Fire Scripture for today (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14), the conclusion of the preacher is that the whole duty of a man is to fear God and obey his commandment. Solomon was an anointed king of Israel, a prophet of God. He was anointed by God to rule over Israel. He can be described as that man that saw it all and had it all. He had fame, prosperity, power, riches, wisdom, yet he died an unfulfilled man. He discovered later in his life that the whole essence of living is to fear God and obey his commandment; hence his counsel in our text. To fear God means to reverence Him, to love Him, to have faith in Him and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and to keep His commandments and be obedient to His will. This is the only thing that can make a man whole and perfect. Without the fear of God, man is nothing. Every child of God is chosen and called to follow Christ. We have been given all we need for life and godliness and have access to the riches of His grace. However, if the foundation of your life is not laid on the fear of God and obedience to His word, your life will become futile and your fellowship with God will not stand. All the material possessions, intelligence, popularity or fame you have will be meaningless. The only thing that can give you fulfilment in this life and the life hereafter is to fear God and obey His commands. It would amount to sin if we fail to follow God’s word which is a revealer of God’s mind to us as recorded in Micah 6:8. Doing His will equals to reverencing Him, because you cannot obey and reverence who you have no regards for. There is assurance of eternal life, strong confidence and divine security (Prov. 14:26-27). What could be richer than abundant life! May God humble our hearts to fulfil this one but all-encompassing duty to fear God! However, no man can fear God except by the help of the Holy Spirit. If you are not yet born again, surrender your heart today so that you can receive the presence of the Holy Spirit who alone can give you the grace and power to do so. Motivational Quote: The fear of God is an antidote to a life of futility and vanity. Prophetic Word: Receive the fear of God that makes the difference in a man’s life, in the name of Jesus. HYMN: The Comforter Has Come 1. O Spread the tidings ’round, Where ever man is found, Where ever human hearts And human woes abound; Let ev’ry Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound; The Comforter has come! Chorus Holy Ghost from Heav’n, The father’s promise giv’n; O spread the tidings round, wherever man is found The comforter has come 2. The long, long night is past, The morning breaks at last, And hushed the dreadful wail And fury of the blast, As o’er the golden hills the day advances fast! The Comforter has come! 3. Lo, the great King of kings, With healing in His wings, To ev’ry captive soul a full deliv’rance brings; And thro’ the vacant cells the song of triumph rings; The Comforter has come! PRAYER POINTS: MORNING 1. Father, teach me to walk in Your fear, in the name of Jesus. 2. Let the fear of God be the foundation of my decision in life, in the name of Jesus. 3. Father, help to yield myself as a servant to obey Your word, in the name of Jesus. EVENING: 4. My Father, let the Spirit of fear of God be activated in my life afresh, in the name of Jesus. 5. Lord, let every part of my being come in subj e c tion to the obedience of God, in the name of Jesus. 6. My Father, reveal to me any area of my life where my obedience is yet to be complete, in the name of Jesus. 7. Father, grant me the courage to obey You, no matter how difficult, in the name of Jesus. Topic: Love for God and Man (2)

Fire Scripture
Mark 12:28 -33

MFM Daily Devotional 30 May 2021 Outline

It is written, ‘Not that we love God, but that he loved us, and sent his son as a propitiation for our sins’ (1 John 4:10). We continue our discussion on love for God and man. The greatest commandment and the greatest identity of a believer is love (John 13:35).

Our discussion today will centre greatly on love for man or love for your neighbour. The second answer according to Mark 12:31 is: “Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself.” Who is my neighbour? From the parable of the good Samaritan, my neighbour is the next person to me. Those people around me that I can show love to. They include parents, maids, colleagues, boss, etc.

How do I love my neighbour? The second part of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:12-17 confirmed in Romans 13:8-10 shows us how a believer can love his neighbour. They include: show respect and honour to your parents, don’t murder anyone, abstain from adultery, avoid theft, don’t tell lies about other people and avoid covetousness.

All these are also part of the characteristics of love as written in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Love is patient, kind, does not envy, not rude, not proud, does not brag, does not keep record of wrongs done against it, does not rejoice when others fail, does not get easily provoked, love never give up on people, believe all things, never loses hope, never quits. How do you love your neigbour as yourself?

You and I are very good at taking care of ourselves. We want the best for ourselves. To love your neigbour as yourself, you need to love yourself by receiving the love of God. You can only give what you have. To love your neighbour as yourself as commanded, you need to be filled with the Spirit of God. Love is a fruit of the Spirit.

If you are yet to be born again, you cannot fulfil this command because you don’t have the Spirit of God.

Memory Verse
Mark 12:31 – And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Motivational Quote
Love for your neighbour is the barometer with which to measure your love for God.

Prophetic Word
Henceforth, you will be a blessing to your neighbour, in the name of Jesus.

HYMN
Cleansing fountain

1. There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel’s veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Loose all their guilty stains:
Lose all their guilty stains,
Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.

2. The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day,
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away:
Wash all my sins away,
Wash all my sins away;
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.

3. Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its pow’r,
Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved to sin no more:
Be saved to sin no more,
Be saved to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved to sin no more.
