Norway Mosque Shooting: Police investigate shooting as ‘terrorist’ attempt

Norway Mosque Shooting: The Norwegian police on Sunday August 11, announced that it is investigating the shooting at a Mosque in Oslo as a possible act of terrorism.

The gunman armed with multiple weapons opened fire at Al-Noor Islamic Centre located on the outskirts of the capital Oslo, wounding one person before being overpowered by worshippers on Saturday August 10.

Following his arrest and a search in his apartment which uncovered the corpse of female relative, the man who appeared to have acted alone has been charged with attempted murder and murder for the time being.

“We’re investigating this as an attempt at carrying out an act of terrorism,” assistant chief of police Rune Skjold told a news conference on Sunday.

The police already knew the suspect before the incident but he never had the tag of someone with a “criminal background”. The young white man had expressed support for Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian politician who collaborated with occupying German forces during World War II – as well as anti-immigrant stances.
