Scripture: Jeremiah 43:1–13
Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?
Message: Obedience to God has always been the condition for receiving God’s blessings (Deuteronomy 28:1,2). Despite the promise of security and prosperity, God’s people refused to obey him (v.2). Why? Read vv.2–3 again. The leaders were proud and self–conceited. Think about it! Why would people ask God for direction when they are not ready to obey? Perhaps they thought God will endorse their decision to go to Egypt. They were controlled by pride and fear. They exhibited lack of trust in the Lord.
There is danger in doing things our own way (Proverbs 3:5–8) How often do we stray like them, expecting God to approve our own desires and plans instead of his own plans and purpose for us? Jeremiah was forced to go with them perhaps, his presence gave them false hope and security. However, God did not stop warning them even with signs to assure them that his words will surely come to pass (vv.8–11). Going back to Egypt is sometimes used as symbolism for following the way of the world rather than God’s way i.e., going back into the world. There is no peace or safety for us in Egypt (See Isaiah 30:1–3; 31:1–3).

• And so: Will you determine never to go back to the world?

• On Christ the solid Rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand.
• Praise God for who He is ─ the King of kings, Almighty, Holy and Righteous, all Powerful, Unchangeable, Kind and Merciful beyond measure, beautiful for every situation.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 102:17
