TOPIC: Avoid Greed and Religious Exploitation!

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: 2 King 5: 15-27

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 14th June 2023 MESSAGE:

How do we respond when God answers our prayers? Naaman’s confession (vs.15 & 17) gives us a good example of why God does miracles and the kind of response that is expected from those who experience or learn of God’s great works. Contrary to what we see in the church today, where men of God are literally being worshipped because of miracles, Naaman’s confession shows that miracles are to draw us to God, not to worship the human vessel He used and not to go back to worship idols (v.17)

Read v.16 again. What does Elisha’s refusal to collect any gift from Naaman teach us about ministry? How does this compare with some ministers’ attitude to money and gifts today?

While it is not always wrong for ministers to receive gifts, Elisha’s action reminds us that ministry is not a business and God’s gifts cannot be bought with money (Acts 8:20). Our Lord Jesus instructed us, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8b). Unfortunately, some ministers have, like Gehazi, become greedy for personal gain. They use deceptions to exploit God’s people to enrich themselves. We should be warned that such underhanded methods will not go unpunished (vs.26-27). We are sternly warned against covetousness and the love of money or dishonest gain (Luke 12:15; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; Hebrews 13:5-6).

PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
And so? What is your general attitude to money and material things?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

CLOSING PRAYER
Dear Lord, purge my heart of every materialistic tendency, so I do not bring disgrace to your name.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Luke 9:1

PRAYER FOCUS
GOD, MY SUFFICIENCY
But He said to me “my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”…
-2 Corinthians 12:9

THANK GOD FOR:
► The salvation we enjoy from being in Christ.
► The provision to bear fruit in Christ as we continue to abide in Him.

PRAY FOR:
► The light of the glory of God that keeps shining in our hearts more so as we see the day appearing.
► Our continuous faith, confession and belief that our sufficiency is of our God.
► Grace to keep knowing nothing except Christ and Him crucified, thereby shunning any other strange doctrines.

PRAY AGAINST:
► Any disgraceful practices that will tamper with God’s word, our faith and our salvation.
► Seeking provisions by other means and not by the one approved by our God.
