Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 June 2023
Read Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 June 2023, Thursday SU Daily Guide Reading
TOPIC: God Cares for and Protects His Own
OPENING PRAYER: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
SCRIPTURE: 2 King 6:1-23
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit
• Q 4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
If you were Elisha, would you have agreed to participate with your students in such a menial job (vs.3-4)? Though Elisha was an accomplished and very busy minister of God, yet he made time to be with his students (disciples). We must never allow the glamour and affluence of ministry to disconnect us from the common people.
Read vs.5-7 again. If the axe head was not recovered, how could it have affected the ministry of Elisha and his students? Although the miracle looks insignificant, when we set it against the fact that iron tools were very scarce and expensive in Israel at the time, we can appreciate that God cares for even little details of the challenges we may face in life and ministry.
What encouragement can we find in vs.8-12, 14-17? See also 2 Chronicles 32:7-8; 1 John 4: 4.
In the face of widespread insecurity in many of our communities, we can trust God for protection. The Lord can choose to reveal the secrets of the enemies to us and He can disarm them for our sake (vs.18-23). Even when we cannot see any physical sign, we should always remember that He is with us (Hebrews 13:5b).
Practice/Word Application
So What? How would you have treated the Aramean soldiers were you the one who captured them? Read Romans 12:19-21.
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
CLOSING PRAYER
Thank you, Lord that you care for the little details of my life. Help me to trust you more and more, especially in the face of impending dangers.
