TOPIC: Grievous Consequences of Rebellion against God

OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: 2 King 6:24-7:2

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Q 5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

SU DAILY GUIDE 16 JUNE 2023 MESSAGE:

Read vs.24-29 again. How do you feel reading these verses? This is a picture of the kind of troubles we bring upon ourselves when we choose to disobey God’s laws. God already warned the Israelites of such terrible consequences of rebelling against His laws, but they did not heed His warnings (see Deuteronomy 28:49-57). Think of ways we are also disobeying and rebelling against God’s word today. What evils are we suffering that you think are possible consequences of our rebellion? See Proverbs 14:34.

In his helplessness, the King blamed Elisha for this national calamity (vs.30-33). Why? What does this teach us about the expectations of the world, including political leaders, from the church in time of national calamity?

Take note that the King neither thought it necessary to examine his own life nor blame himself for what was happening. How do you react to crisis in your life? It is good to always examine yourself to see how you might have contributed to the trouble you are going through, before blaming others.

Despite the unrepentant attitude of the leaders and the people, God still sends a message of deliverance (7:1-2)? What a merciful God! Notice the doubt and unbelief the king’s officer entertained and Elisha’s pronouncement on him in v.2.

PRACTICE WORD/APPLICATION
What Next? Disobedience and rebellion against God have grievous consequences. Decide today to stop any act of rebellion you know in your life.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

CLOSING PRAYER
Lord Jesus, grant me grace to reject every act of rebellion and embrace your word with excitement.
