Topic: A House for God But a Throne for David

Opening Prayer: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.

Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:1–17

Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Read v.1 again. If you are in David’s position, what would be your greatest desire? In gratitude for what God had done for him, David felt he should do something about the abode of the Ark. Was he right to discuss this with the prophet? God did not allow David to be misled by Nathan who did not speak the mind of God in v.3 but was presumptuous.

We see true humility as Nathan went back to give David God’s message (v.17). David might have been disappointed that it was not him but his son who was to build the house for God. God promised him a dynasty that will last forever (v.16). This was the basis of the messianic hope, fulfilled in Jesus Christ who was born in Bethlehem (David’s birthplace) and of the house and lineage of David. Read the words of the angel to Mary in Luke 1:32–33.

David obeyed God and did not build the Temple but we will see later the elaborate arrangements he made to make the task easy for his son.

Practice/Word Application
• Thought: What will you do today to show your gratitude to God?

Prayer Points
• May I learn to trust and obey as there is no other way to be happy in Jesus.
• Pray for political leaders to know that power belongs to God and, therefore, be willing to work for and uphold free and fair electoral processes and systems.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Genesis 18:14a

Read the Bible in one Year
Jer. 34–36; Matt. 26:51–75
